Initial Ground Training Flight    

So what happens when you join 1002 sqn?

The Adventure Begins............................ 

To start off with you will join the Initial Ground Training (IGT) Flight. It is an ideal opportunity for you to make new friends and learn more about life in the ATC.  

Whilst in IGT you will learn all the basic elements that will enable you to function as part of the squadron and qualify you to take part in the activities the cadets on the squadron enjoy.

You will be in IGT for approx. 3 months (depending on your attendance and how quickly you progress) and you will learn the following subjects and be tested at the end of each module. Once you have passed all the exams you will become a 'First Class' Cadet and graduate from IGT and moved into one of the main cadet flights.

The subjects you will learn are:

  • Airmanship I
  • History of Flight
  • The Rifle
  • Map Reading
  • Communications
  • Initial Expedition Training
  • First Aid Training 
  • Drill
